A Michelin Star Tour Of Italy - Three Unique Locations From North To South Where You Can Stay And Dine In Style
We have curated a short list of places in Italy where you can indulge in an unforgettable Michelin star dinner, and then stay on the property itself for a hassle free and immersive luxury experience in Italy that spans the boot from north to south.
Casa Maria Luigia - Modena, Emilia Romagna

In the beating heart of Italy's culinary universe is the northern region of Emilia Romagna, which lies in the Po River Valley bellow Milan and the region of Lombardy. Here you can find such treasures as Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, balsamic vinegar, mortadella, and prosciutto di parma, which all call this region home. The picturesque city of Modena in particular is home to one of the most famous and highly awarded Michelin Star restaurants in the world, Osteria Francescana, headed by chef and owner Massimo Bottura. However the osteria is not what we will be talking about

here. Instead we will focus on the newly renovated concept Bottura has unveiled at his private villa, Casa Maria Luigia, located in the countryside just outside Modena. Here you have the opportunity to not only stay at the villa in one of it's uniquely decorated rooms, but also indulge in a 9 course tasting menu in the Villa's restaurant headed by chef Jessica Rosval, showcasing some of Osteria Francescana's most legendary dishes through the years. The optional wine pairing is currated by Bottura's wife, and if you are lucky, you may be joined by the chef himself throughout the night as he explains the history behind each dish. The next morning, wake up to a lux and well appointed breakfast downstairs before roaming the beautiful grounds around the villa.

Il Pellicano - Porto Ercole, Tuscany

Heading south, we move to La Maremma, an underrated yet breathtaking stretch of Tuscan coast. Here, on the the Monte Argentario peninsula you can find perhaps one of the most elegant "hidden gem" hotels in all of Italy, Il Pellicano. This luxury boutique institution just up the coast from the port town of Porto Ercole, exudes "dolce vita" style, amazing views, rustic refinement, and of

course a one Michelin Star restaurant right on its grounds. Ristorante Il Pellicano, headed by chef Michelino Gioia, boasts a stunning, relaxed terrace that over looks the rocky coast, and sits just steps away from the guest suites and bungalows where you stay. The menu highlights simple, elegant flavors that use balance and contrast to reinterpret traditional Tuscan recipes. Much like the hotel itself, the food is delicate and refined, and a dinner here is one of the most romantic reservations in all of Italy. Il Pellicano makes for a perfect weekend getaway (or stunning honeymoon), far from the hustle and bustle of nearby Florence and Rome, and the over-touristed coastlines of Amalfi and Cinque Terre.
Qafiz - Aspromonte, Calabria

Calabria is often overlooked by travellers coming to Italy, however its reputation is starting to change as more innovation, fine dining, and unique luxury accommodations begin to pop up throughout this expansive southern region north of the Island of Sicily. Just inland from the western coast of Calabria, tucked within the beautiful and mountainous Aspromonte national park, is Qafiz, a stylish one Michelin Star restaurant by chef Nino Rossi, who is serving up experimental modern takes on traditional Calabrian cuisine using local produce. The restaurant also happens to operate a charming and elegant bed and breakfast next door, which occupies a historic residence that dates back to the 1700s. Ristorante Qafiz and Casa Qafiz are both family run and have the kind of personal touch the oozes authenticity, even within the context of luxury Michelin dining. A stay at Qafiz is a truly unique experience which offers guests a glimpse into the heart of Calabria. Plus, I doubt any of your friends have been here!
